A very happy new year to everyone. 2005 promises to be a good year for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that it marks the centennial of two very important and influential theories. For philosophy, 1905 was the year Bertrand Russell published his theory of descriptions with "On Denoting", and for physics, 1905 was the year of Einstein's special theory of relativity. Let the celebrations begin!
Here is some administrative information for the new year that you might like to know:
1) Two new papers have been posted on the Papers on Agency blog. The first is a paper by Saul Smilansky entitled "Egalitarianism, Free Will, and Ultimate Injustice", and the second is a paper by Manuel Vargas entitled "The Trouble with Tracing". Go check them out!
2) We have added a book to the "Current Garden Reading" on the left sidebar of this blog, with a discussion board as well. That book is Nomy Arpaly's Unprincipled Virtue: An Inquiry into Moral Agency. A few of us here at UCR will be reading this book during the next couple of months, so hopefully we'll get some discussion going. For those of you who'd like to discuss the book online, that's what this discussion board is for, so come join.
May the new year be a productive one. And as always, please feel free to contact us with comments and suggestions or if you'd like to submit a paper to the Papers on Agency blog.
