Jorge Luis Borges

  • "Under the trees of England I meditated on this lost and perhaps mythical labyrinth. I imagined it untouched and perfect on the secret summit of some mountain; I imagined it drowned under rice paddies or beneath the sea; I imagined it infinite, made not only of eight-sided pavilions and of twisting paths but also of rivers, provinces and kingdoms. I thought of a maze of mazes, of a sinuous, ever growing maze which would take in both past and future and would somehow involve the stars."

Unfree Agent Sommers to Houston

Our very own metaskeptic about moral responsibility, Tamler Sommers, has accepted an offer for a position at the University of Houston.  Congratulations Tamler!

That's great news, Tamler! I can't wait to see you in your Astros hat. Jeff Bagwell made the change...and so can you.

Congrats Tamler!

Yes, congrats indeed. And for those interested in things like this (e.g., me), Tamler's AOS is listed as "Ethics, Moral Psychology, Free Will". That's one more success story in the fight to legitimize free will as an AOS.

Thanks everyone!

Neal, when I told our placement officer I listed "free will/moral responsibility" as an AOS, but only the "free will" part made it up there.

Heartiest congratulations! Going from MN to TX may well seem meteorlogically like escape from Dante's 9th circle to the inner ring of the 7th. . . :-)

Congratulations, Tamler!!

Congrats! I think you will find that the warmer weather makes you more optimistic about the existence of free will.

Congratulations, Tamler!

I echo Manuel's remark, but remain skeptical... Congrats!

Congrats! I think belief in God, the soul, the saints, and sundry spirits is more common in southern climes, but I'm not worried about you!
